How do I clean the rabbit fur coat I found in gramma's closet?

It's not dirty nor does it smell badly but I did want to give it a proper washing before giving it as a gift to someone who would absolutely love it. It's not a long coat but I'm hesitant to put it through the washing machine. Would doing that damage the coat? Could I put it through on a gentle cycle and then allow it to air dry?
