Why do some people like to selectively exclude certain people from the constitution?

Things such a the Mosque and Gay Marriage are not the reasons this country is in the shape it's in, this MINDSET that anyone who fails to meet the requirements of somebody elses beliefs, ideals, view points, etc. should automatically be denied certain and basic rights IS the reason this country is in piss poor shape.
