Probably because puppy food is so rich and the pup you have is going to get quite large. The only thing I can figure is the high quality foods are just too rich in nutrients and may cause bone problems in your pup. Forcing it to grow too quick. Which can cause bone deformities and lameness. You have to be careful in those large breed pups.
